  • 3-layer paper napkin
  • Interior paint for walls and floors
  • Varnish gloss for wood
  • PVA adhesive
  • Nail polishes, spangles
  • Brushes
  • Gouache
  • Sandpaper

Steps

    Take a wooden log; if there is some roughness, polish it with a piece of sandpaper. Our aim is to make a smooth surface under the napkin. Make sure the surface is clean: after polishing wipe it with a dry cloth first, and then with a slightly wet cloth. Wait for five minutes to let it dry.

    Start covering the cleaned log with the interior paint. First cover the top and lateral surfaces. Let it dry for 10 minutes.

    When the first layer of paint is dry, the surface is ready for the next layer.

    Apply the second layer of interior paint the same way. Now we again wait for 10 minutes until it is dry.

    Choose the area of the image that will be on the top. Turn the napkin on the backside and outline the log area around with the pencil (later it will help to glue it accurately).

    You see what we got: the inner circle is our basement. I outlined the outer bigger circle for the lateral surfaces of the log.

    Cover the bottom of the log with the interior paint. While waiting until it is dry we do the next step.

    The napkin consists of three paper layers. Split them. Two of three layers are colorless, put them away – we do not need them. We are going to work with the upper layer with an image.

    Mix one table spoon of PVA adhesive with one tea spoon of water, stir the mixture.

    Apply the glue mixed with water to the same surfaces which are under three paint layers. When the top and lateral surfaces are covered with glue, let it all dry for 10 seconds.

    Place the napkin circle onto the glued surface. Begin joining the napkin with the log from the top, gradually spreading it with fingers around the log surface. Napkin should be laid smoothly.

    Let it dry for 2 minutes and cut some spare pieces of napkin off. Pour some glue-water mixture onto the napkin, in the middle. Spread the glue around the top surface, and then around lateral surfaces, too. Let it dry for 10 minutes.

    Decorate the image with the nail polishes and spangles. Let it dry.

    Paint the bottom of the log with the pale brown gouache.

Warnings

  • It is necessary to mix gouache with some PVA glue prior to applying it.
