How to make cuticle balm
When taking care of hands you should pay your attention not only to nails and hand skin, but cuticle as well – skinny roller surrounding nail plate in the lower part. Cuticle has protective role, protecting nail growth area. Its edges are consisting of already dead skin cells, if they over dry and peel off painful hangnails may occur. So that cuticle always stays beautiful, soft and flexible you should use softening and moisturizing means.
- Shea butter – 0.10 oz (3 g)
- Sweet almond oil – 0.18 oz (5 g)
- Beeswax – 0.03 oz (1 g)
- Lanolin – 0.03 oz (1 g)
- Rosemary essential oil – 3-4 drops
Weigh oils and wax. Shea butter is – one of the most popular oils for skin care, possesses the strongest nourishing and moisturizing properties. Lanolin softens and nourishes the skin, provides with healing of injuries on it. Beeswax (we have white wax, you may use common yellow one) has softening, nourishing and anti-inflammatory properties. Slowly soaking it forms a thinnest protective film on the nail and skin, visibly improves the state of cuticle and nails.
We add liquid sweet almond oil, which has also long been used for softening and nourishing of the skin.
Put everything onto water bath and by stirring wait for complete dissolution of the wax.
After we have taken the capacity with oils away from the water bath we should wait so that they cooled down and only after that add rosemary essential oil. This essential oil possesses unique property to soften skin thickenings, restore its flexibility, increase nail growth.
We mix all and our cuticle care balm is ready.
While it is still liquid, pour it into the jar with wide neck previously disinfected with alcohol.
We didn’t use preservatives when we were making the balm as it doesn’t have water phase. Therefore you should pay maximum attention to making and storing conditions – use clean disinfected crockery for making and keeping the balm, it’s advisable to keep ready balm in a fridge.
Initially liquid, while cooling the balm becomes more dense and sticky. When kept in a fridge it hardens at all, but in contact with skin from warmth of our body it immediately melts, is easily distributed and perfectly absorbed.
In order to get maximum effect from using this balm you should apply it to previously prepared and cleaned nail plate and cuticle – nail polish should be removed, you can make a bath with sea salt.
- This balm not only softens and nourishes cuticle preventing hangnails and making the hands look well-groomed, but also promotes intensive nail growth.
