How to cook potato-fish casserole in a microwave
Almost every evening I start a puzzle on the topic – “What can I cook?” I wish to diversify my meal and I don’t want to mess around with it at all. In case you don’t like cooking (and staying at the stove), please follow my example – bake. Casseroles – are the tastiest thing you can imagine. They are great because second course and garnish are cooked simultaneously. I very often cook something in a microwave. It greatly saves my time as for heat treatment. It turns out quite the same as baking in an oven and time for preparation reduces up to almost 2-4 times.
- Potato – 5-7 pieces
- Walleye pollock fillets – 2 pieces
- Onion – 2 big pieces
- Cheese – 3-7 oz (100-200 g)
- Mayonnaise – 3-7 oz (100-200 g)
- Spices – to your taste
Ingredients are very simple and are on hand by any housewife. The potatoes should be peeled and cut. I slice into reasonably thin pieces. Put it into a baking mold.
The next step is walleye pollock fillet. It turned out that I have not many fish. You can vary the amount of components as you wish, so I willfully don’t mention the exact number of this or that ingredient. We cut fish into pieces and put out onto the potato surface.
Cut onions into rings and put on the fish. I love onions so I take it as much as possible.
I pour mayonnaise on the top of vegetables and fish. If you are not lazy to spend time on it you may cook a homemade sauce. If you buy it, then don’t deceive yourself – take rich and natural one (no additives).
We make the sauce even upon the surface. I don’t salt potatoes with fish and I don’t recommend it to you. There is enough salt in mayonnaise so to give the dish necessary taste. For better taste I add and sprinkle a little bit of ground black pepper. Fish goes very well with black pepper (though traditionally it’s flavoring for meat).
Besides, we improve the result with cheese, which is always rather salty itself.
I cover baking mold with shrink wrap (you may cover it with vacuum cap). For cooking in a microwave you should use covered containers otherwise water evaporates and casserole doesn’t turn out to be tasty.
We pierce the wrap in several areas (so not to burst) and take the mold onto the stove. For my amount of potatoes and fish I spent precisely 30 minutes and 750W of microwave power, this resources i usually spent to warm up the soup or second course.
2-3 minutes before it’s ready I take away the wrap to let golden crust appear.
I served casserole with cabbage salad. We had very quick dinner both on cooking stage and while eating. Fish walleye pollock flavor is very well combined with onion scent. Pouring over the potatoes with fragrant nectar, mayonnaise grounds gives the garnish creamy scent and makes it juicy. You don’t have to dance around the stove and cook fish and garnish separately.
- If you are baking potatoes with fish in an oven, you should put cheese not at once but 5-10 minutes till it is cooked otherwise the top of the dish will burn a bit. Keep in mind, that cooking time increases for 2-3 times.
- The casserole is good as you can eat it both warm and cooled. Such dish can be cooked for the future (in terms of the next dinner). The great taste won’t be lost. In my opinion, the next day the casserole is even tastier.
