Barcelona is one of the most important transportation nodes of Spain, so many travelers find themselves in this city passing by. That’s what happened to me, I had only one day between my flights. And though the city undoubtedly deserves that you could dedicate it not one week, I had to choose, what I can see in capital of Catalonia, so that to get an impression about the city during short time. Perhaps, my experience will be useful for other travelers, turned to be in Barcelona for the first time.

    The main sights of Barcelona are located not far from subway stations, so it is more reasonable not to neglect this means of public transport, even if you travel by car. So to save time and money, you may at once buy a subway ticket for several trips. It’s easy to use Barcelona’s subway, underground schemes are placed at descent in subway, on stations, in subway cars, and there are railway guides, it’s very difficult to get lost.

    The most famous and visited sights of Barcelona is – Sagrada Familia or Expiatory Church of the Holy Family. Moreover, this temple is one of the most unusual buildings of Europe, it is one of the creations of architect Antoni Gaudi, whose name is indissolubly linked with Barcelona. To be in Barcelona and not to see Gaudi buildings is – unforgivable negligence. So even if you won’t have time to see anything, Sagrada Familia is worth to be the only visited in your list. The best way to reach the Church of the Holy Family is on subway, it is located just at the exit of the station of the same name. The construction of the building isn’t finished, building work goes on today, but even with building timbers the Church leaves very strong and unusual impression.

    If you may look at Sagrada Familia outside for free, than to go inside you need to buy a ticket. The cost of the ticket is determined by how many things you are going to see. The minimal cost is 13euro, for this money you may see the basilica. So to climb up the tower, you need to pay 17 euro and further – more. When we were buying our tickets, we were made clear that climbing up the tower with 4-year old kid is not allowed, so we could visit only the basilica. The building is almost finished inside.

    The case is complicated by the line, which you have to stand so to go in the temple. There are especially many tourists at first half of the day, by evening the inflow falls down a little bit and there can’t be any big lines. Tourist groups with sights men go without lines, but you may simply book an entrance ticket online in advance, and then you are guaranteed to go without lines through a separate entry.

    So to feel Barcelona, you surely should visit Rambla Boulevard – pedestrian street in historical center of the city. It is much more beautiful in the evening, but I was already flying away in the evening, so I was satisfied with things I saw in noon.

    Here you can see street performances, listen to music, buy souvenirs, have a tasty snacks, simply take a walk. It’s also convenient to go to Rambla boulevard on subway, you may go to it right from 3 subway stations on the third line. It is one of street shops with delicacies.

    The boulevard is located near other sights of Barcelona: the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona Cathedral, Catalonia Square and others. The rest of the day you may spend walking along these historical places.

    If you are travelling by car, than perfect variant for you will be visiting Guell Park. It’s not very convenient to go there on public transport, and GPS will perfectly lead you there. This is also one of the most visited places of Barcelona, where you can enjoy extraordinary masterpieces of Antoni Gaudi, walk in nature and listen to street musicians. There are a few playgrounds in the park.

    From Guell Park there opens a beautiful panorama of Barcelona, it’s is right the place to take photos. And than you may have a tasty snack and buy souvenirs near the park.

Warnings

  • If you are a little bit lost, don’t be shy to ask the way from passersby. I got the impression that the Catalans are – very friendly and benevolent people. But it seemed to me that the Spanish don’t hurry to learn other languages.
  • In many tourist guides one tries to pay your attention to the fact that there are many pickpockets in Barcelona, and I tried to be attentive as for my handbag. But during that short time which we stayed in this city, I didn’t notice any attempts to steal my property.
