Sculpting a ladybird out of play dough is very easy; you will learn this is this step by step instruction. You will find these steps very easy to handle; it can even be done by a 4-year old child.

You´ll need

  • Multi-colored play dough
  • Stack

    Create the trunk of a ladybird by using red dough; you will need to make this into a ball. You may use as much red clay as you like since this is the only time you will use this colored clay.

    Cut the ball in half, but not completely. This will be the insect´s wings. Slightly flatten the ball using a stack.

    Get black clay; you will need to make small balls and flatten these out to make spots found on the ladybug’s back. You can make as many of these as you can however it is better if you make an even number. I recommend you make 8 balls.

    Place the black spots on the back of the ladybug preferably 4 spots on each side of the back.

    When the trunk is ready, it’s time to make the head. The head is preferably 4 times smaller than the trunk. Roll up the ball for the head using a black play dough. You will also need two small white balls of clay for the eyes as well as two very tiny black clays for tej center of the eye.

    When you attach the eyes to the head; you will need to flatten the white balls. Place the tiny black clay dots in the middle of the eye. When these are done, your eyes are ready.

    Make a mouth by using of stack. Use toothpicks for creating the ladybug’s nose, i’ve tried to make it by stack and ladybird had turned out very raptorial with huge nostrils.

    Now make small horns. Create small black clay sausages and stick these on the head of the ladybug.

    When the horns are ready, attach these on the head.

    Attach the ready head to the body of the ladybug. Your funny ladybug is ready.

    While I was making my own version of ladybugs, my 4-year-old grandson was making his version of ladybird. As a result of our joint work we have created a yellow-eyed wonder made of play dough.

Warnings

  • It could be very hard to attach the head of the ladybug to the body. Press the two slightly to allow the two to attach from the bottom of the ladybug.
