Today I’ll be demonstrating to you how to prepare a tasty “lazy” stuffed cabbage rolls. I’ve always preferred classic stuffed cabbage rolls with rice-meat stuffing, wrapped in a cabbage leaf. Most of you will concur with me that cooking of stuffed cabbages require a lot of hard work. It’s much easier to shred cabbage in a pan, add the remaining ingredients, mix together and stew for a while. Whereas some people do not like the classic stuffed cabbage because of the wrapper, so we’ll try to satisfy those and other. I have provided different recipes in order to satisfy not only those who relish stuffed cabbages, but also those people who have never been impressed with this kind of dish, because of wrapper leaf.

You´ll need

  • Head of cabbage – 1/3 part
  • Onions – 1-2 pieces
  • Carrots – 1 piece
  • Mincemeat – 17.6 oz. (0.5 kg.)
  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Sour cream – 2 tbsp
  • Tomato paste – 2 tbsp
  • Salt and spices to taste

    Cut the cabbage into small pieces. However, if you find this process cumbersome, you can use a grater for the procedure.

    To ensure thorough preparation, spread the cabbage over the pan. Nonetheless, there are a few things that I would like to point out. If you are using a tough and rigid cabbage, boil it in water for at least 10 minutes. By doing so, you will be able to make it softer.

    Cut the onions into small cubes and spread them over the cabbage.

    Grate the carrots and spread them over the cabbage. Thereafter, you can add salt and pepper to enhance the taste. You can also add a little sugar if you like.

    I did not cook the cabbage. I just shred the vegetables and knead them well by hands. But you have to look at your case, if the head of cabbage is young, you can proceed without boiling, otherwise it is better to boil it.

    Add the minced meat to the vegetables. Spread them over the cabbage and use a fork to mix the different components.

    Before starting to prepare the stuffed cabbage, you have to boil rice till the semi-readiness. Normally, when preparing rice, for every 1 glass of rice, add 2 glasses of water to the cooking pan, but to get semi-readiness condition, use one glass of water for every glass of rice.

    Once the rice has cooled down, add it to the stuffed cabbage.

    Mix everything until the ingredients are well blended.

    Hold the stuffed cabbage and shape them into a cutlets. Repeat the entire process until you are through with the stuffed cabbage.

    Next, prepare a filling. For this purpose add the two tablespoons of sour cream into a bowl.

    Cover the baking dish using a foil and insert in an oven.

    Allow the dish to bake for roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes at a temperature of 450 F (250 C). For 5 minutes before removing the dish from the oven, remove the foil and bake to get redden crust.

    Stuffed cabbages are best eaten alongside sour cream. With the right ingredients, you should be able to make your own sauce based on sour cream at home. I usually use herbs and black pepper.
