How to develop a child’s logic and fine motility skills with the use of beads
A child starts developing his identity independently from the first months of life. At first he is contented with simple subjects, he twists his fingers and even tries to shift from one hand to another to hold his feeding bottle. Then his skills are perfected by means of a spoon, a pencil or a brush. Children usually play with these with great pleasure. Therefore a mother can turn this training process into a fascinating game. Today I would like to suggest a way to accelerate the motility of a child. For this purpose you may use a bead lace. It includes a lace (its best if you use a small strand only) and a set of various beads (you need to look for beads with large holes in the middle so you can easily string beads together).
- “Bead” lacing simply means placing different numbers of beads in a set, the more beads are on the lace, the more interesting training will become.
Children even at the age of 1-1.5 years will be able to develop his motor skills by stringing beads. It will be easier to help kids string beads by means of a special stick attached to a string just like a shoe lace. And it easier for a senior to tinker with the tip of a lace trimmed with plastic or metal. In purchased sets, as a rule, one end of a lace is just an ordinary lace while the other has as stick attached. Length of a lace has to be not less than 10 inches (25 cm.), if this is changed then the beads will not be able to be attached efficiently. For kids who are doing this activity for the first time do not use too long lace, their small hands will not be able to handle a long lace. On the end of a lace make a small knot so that beads will no slide down.
Help kids distinguish beads. You can teach kids to distinguish color by placing two cups with different colors. Teach him how to place yellow beads in the yellow cup while blue beads have to go to the blue cup.
This exercise will help kids learn how to distinguish different colors, shapes and sizes too.
One more activity to teach kids is to scatter all the beads on the floor and to teach him how to place each bead in the appropriately colored cup. You need different colored cups for all the colored beads that he will use i.e. in a blue cup it is necessary to put blue and light blue beads and in the red cup all the beads that have a read shade like red, pink and claret.
If beads have a certain shape just like these, teach your child the concept of animals and allow him to distinguish different animal noises. For example as you hold the bead that looks like a duck teach your child that ducks go quack while cats go meow.
Help kids learn how to string beads. Children that are below 2 years of age will still have difficulty in operating his fingers therefore it may take him time to place beads on a lace. Show your child how this is done especially how to string beads together; see how your child does it and allow him to choose the bead that he likes to string to the lace. To remove the beads may be a difficult task however you need to show this so that the child will know what to do after the lace becomes full of beads. You may teach him how to shake beads off the lace or removing them one at a time.
- Consider the strung beads, call each animal by their sounds. Repeat several times.
At first it is possible to string any beads that the child may get his hands on but gradually ask your child to accomplish this using a certain order, At first all bears, then all ducks then all the frogs and so on. In teaching your child how to do this, create a simple exercise that goes this way: 2-4 identical subjects: 2 hares, then 2 snails, then 2 bears.
As soon as these tasks are mastered, it is possible to start make the task more complicated. Teach your child how to make pattens of different animals by stringing them in different ways. Show him how to string bears in partners and show how this may be placed in a special way.
For more skilled kids, the game can be complicated. String beads using different patterns then ask your child to repeat this pattern. The next level is about to repeat your pattern whereas beads figures must look at same way as it was on your pattern.
One more very useful training – find unwanted. Kid must find unnecessary item among the similar items which grouped together.
- Praise the child each time that he is able to accomplish a task. But every time he is able to follow a task, you should allow him to complete a harder one the next time.
- Never leave the kid playing with beads, without supervision. He may swallow these beads and will lead to suffocation, injuries and even death.
- Always check purchased wooden beads about high-quality polishing. Poorly manufactured beads can lead to injuries and splinters. Paint may also adhere to your child’s hands and cause severe allergies. Be sure that you are purchasing beads and string from a reliable retailer
