Thanks to the rapid development in computer technology, more and more people are spending 90% plus of their time in front PC monitors. There are those who use computers primarily for work, while others use it for entertainment, shopping and socializing. Unfortunately, only a handful of people take the time to reflect on the effects computers have on their eyes. As a matter of fact, opticians are blaming the increase in eye diseases on the excessive use of computers. The good news is that there are a couple of eye exercises that you can do in order to relieve the stress and pressure on your eyes. Unlike normal fitness exercises, eye workouts do not take much time to complete. Listed below, are lists of simple eye exercises that you can do if you are spending most of your time in front of a PC.

You´ll need

  • Get away from the computer screen for about 2 to 3 minutes

Steps

      • Besides glancing away from the computer monitor, you also need to stretch your legs. As such, this will involve standing up and pacing the room for a few minutes. If you are finding it hard to leave your PC because of time constraint, simply switch off the monitor and start to roll your eyes.

        The first step is about moving your look up and down. The movements should be slow and gradual. There are basically 3-4 approaches you can use when exercising your eyes.

      • Blinking your eyes is the most effective eye muscle relaxation technique. While blinking your eyes, do not screw up or squeeze them, do it easy and gentle. The exercise should take roughly 3 to 4 seconds to complete.

        Repeat step 2 movements, but direction should be from the left to the right.

Do not be in a hurry when moving your eyes up and down. Repeat the exercise for at least 3 to 4 times.

Warnings

        • The good news is that these exercises will take a combined time of 3-4 minutes to complete. Do them for at least 3 times in a day if you spend most of your time in front of a PC. At first, you will feel a little bit of discomfort in your eyes while carrying out the exercises. It happens because your eyes are untrained. However, with time, you will get used to them. Don”t forget that all movements must be slow and gentle.

    Good to have a special glasses to protect your eyes. And also, sometimes to use eye drops.

    At first I thought, this would not work, but I did the eye exercises as you mentioned and I am feeling quite relaxed. Since, I have to work long hours on computer, I think this will help me!

    I agree! It works pretty well and I love the blinking exercise and how quickly you can actually do it, this actually does not take much time, so I guess everyone can do this.
