You´ll need

  • Sheet of paper
  • Ruler and scissors

Steps

    Take a square sheet of paper and fold it diagonally.

    Fold the two corners along the center line.

    Now fold the bottom corner, and attach it to the upper corner, mark a horizontal line.

    Bend two sides one more time, along the vertical centerline.

    Fold the side with the obtuse angle; fold it to create a 90 degree angle.

    Slightly fold the sides to make a vertical sail. Now your sailboat is done!

Warnings

  • It’s better to use thicker and more rigid kind of paper for this origami project.

  1. I always wanted to understand how to make origami, but I thought it’s very difficult. But i think can handle such a simple model.

  2. I prefer this origami pattern. My son and I used to create it at home using colored paper. To date, I can still recall how to create the pattern.

    I concur. My son can also build this. If he happens to forget his toy at home while on a vacation trip, I will encourage him to build an origami sailboat.

    I’ll introduce this project to my kindergarten kids. However, I will advise them to color them using crayons before setting them on water in order to make them water resistant.
