How to cook gently pearl barley porridge in multi cooker (slow cooker)
If you like to eat tasty, tender and hearty pearl barley porridge, the least time consuming way is to use a multi cooker.
- Pearl barley – 1 cup
- Milk with at least 3.2% fat content – 2 pints (1 liter)
- Butter, salt and sugar to taste
Place the pearl barley in a bowl and thoroughly wash before using.
Pour the pearl barley with 2 pints (1 liter) of pure water and leave for 12 hours to allow it to swell.
After 12 hours, wash pearl barley one more time and place in a bowl of multi cooker.
Add 2 pints (1 liter) of hot (or even boiled) milk in a bowl with pearl barley.
Choose the correct multi cooker mode. You have to bring the porridge to boil, choose “browning” mode, it can take up to 20 minutes usually, but can differ on a various slow cookers. Then choose “simmer/low heat” mode and leave the porridge for 4 hours, you have to check porridge from time to time, because your cooking time can be differ.
After stew the porridge, you will be able to see that it has become cream colored and emit a very delicious flavor.
Add sugar, salt and butter when you serve this dish. Bon appétit!
- When using milk, be sure you use fresh milk otherwise your milk can curdle and turn into flakes.
